Hundreds of people assembled outside the London Palladium, hoping to catch sight of football’s leading stars arriving on the red carpet. Metal fences and barricades formed a security perimeter intended to prevent anyone without a ticket from entering.
However, reporters at the scene saw people climbing over, damaging and pulling down the barriers. Security personnel also removed several individuals who had managed to get through.
Tensions occasionally rose, while videos shared on social media appeared to show confrontations between fans, security staff and police officers.
A Metropolitan Police representative said officers had been called to assist following concerns about the crowd’s conduct and the risk of public disorder.
According to the police statement, a Section 35 dispersal order was approved at 19:49 GMT and remained active until 04:00 on Tuesday, 27 October.
Police cleared the area after members of the crowd began hurling scaffolding clips and bricks at officers. No officers suffered injuries.
Later that evening, officers responded to a small group of people who had climbed onto a nearby building.
Police also confirmed two arrests: one person was detained for violating the dispersal order, while another was arrested on suspicion of affray and violent disorder.
