Joan Capdevila, once a player for Spain’s national side, appealed to American leader Donald Trump for assistance following the rejection of his entry permit ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final.
At 48 years old, Capdevila was a member of the Spanish squad that overcame the Netherlands to claim the 2010 World Cup trophy.
The ex-defender had planned to join his old comrades and witness Spain’s second shot at World Cup glory when they face Argentina at MetLife Stadium this Sunday.
Capdevila shared on X on Friday: “I NEED HELP @realDonaldTrump!”
“I was just informed that my ESTA authorization has been turned down, preventing me from going to the final with my children.”
He further stated: “Is there anyone who can assist? I cannot convey how thrilled I was to support both the current squad and my 2010 colleagues in person.
“It is hard to accept being barred from the United States, especially knowing I will lose the chance to experience this with my children, who are passionate about the sport.
“If there is anybody out there with a solution, I would remain forever thankful.”
Capdevila additionally reached out to Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, requesting intervention, and also mentioned Spain’s governmental sports office in his message.
