Alejandro Garnacho misses Chelsea pre-season training

Alejandro Garnacho has been omitted from the Chelsea pre-season traveling party as the top-flight side actively seeks to offload the wide player.

The London club commenced their pre-season program on Thursday with the first-team players not involved in the World Cup, yet Garnacho did not take part in the sessions at the Cobham training ground.

This development underlines the 21-year-old’s precarious position at Stamford Bridge following a disappointing campaign that came after his £40m switch from Manchester United, where he signed a seven-year deal.

Chelsea have placed a valuation of around £43m (50m Euros) on Garnacho and are only willing to consider a full transfer, despite reports suggesting Serie A side Roma are keen on a temporary move.

Clubs from the English top flight, across the continent, and in Saudi Arabia are also thought to be monitoring the situation, with discussions ongoing and progressing with a number of interested parties. Manchester United would be entitled to 10% of any future transfer fee.

In the previous league season, Garnacho found the net just once in 24 appearances, 10 of which came from the bench, as he struggled to secure a regular starting spot under first Enzo Maresca and later Liam Rosenior.

Any departure would form part of a broader restructure of Chelsea’s playing staff this summer ahead of the new era under head coach Xabi Alonso.

The Blues have already wrapped up deals for full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £47m and winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting for a £40m fee.

Significant exits have also been finalised, with left-back Marc Cucurella moving to Real Madrid for £52m and wide attacker Tyrique George joining Everton in a transfer that could eventually be worth £24m.

The west London outfit are seeking to reinforce at centre-back, having identified Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix among the candidates, while talks are ongoing to bring Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria to the capital.

A considerable number of further departures are anticipated, with Trevoh Chalobah’s representatives working on potential transfers to Italian clubs Inter Milan and Como.

After finishing 10th in the Premier League last season, Chelsea are gearing up for a pre-season tour of Australia and Asia over the coming fortnight.
