Former England winger Andros Townsend humorously admitted that playing away at Stoke “didn’t seem so bad after all” after he was struck by a pitch roller in an unusual incident in Thailand.
The 35-year-old, who previously represented Tottenham, Luton and Crystal Palace, now plays for Thai League 1 side PT Prachuap.
Townsend was going through his pre-match warm-up at Pattani on Saturday when a staff member seemingly lost control of a large pitch roller.
His left leg was briefly trapped beneath the machine, but he escaped without injury. He later entered the game as a substitute during a 3-0 victory., external link
Townsend, who earned 13 appearances for England, joked about the scare on Instagram. He referred to an earlier post comparing a sunny trip to an away fixture in Thailand with his previous visits to Stoke’s Bet365 Stadium.
