Bradford City poised to name ex-Wycombe Wanderers manager Michael Duff

News

Bradford City are preparing to name former Wycombe Wanderers head coach Michael Duff as their new manager.

The 48-year-old is expected to succeed Graham Alexander at Valley Parade following Alexander’s move to Championship club Preston North End.

Duff, who has previously managed Cheltenham Town, Barnsley, Swansea City and Huddersfield Town, was dismissed by Wycombe last month after spending a year in the role.

The Bantams currently sit second in League One with 16 points, level with leaders Plymouth Argyle, who have played one additional match.

They visit League Two side Rotherham in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday at 19:00 BST before welcoming Leyton Orient for a league fixture on Saturday at 15:00 BST.

Bradford believe Duff can maintain the energetic 3-4-3 approach established under Alexander, which helped the club earn promotion from League Two and compete near the top of League One.

The former Northern Ireland international played alongside Alexander at Burnley and guided Cheltenham to promotion from League Two in his first management position.

He later led Cheltenham to 15th place in League One in 2021-22, the club’s highest-ever EFL finish, before departing to join Barnsley.

Barnsley placed fourth in the third tier under Duff but were beaten by South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off final. He subsequently took charge of Championship side Swansea.

His time in South Wales did not go as planned, and he was dismissed in December 2023 after only six months at the helm.

Duff returned to Yorkshire to manage Huddersfield Town in May 2024, but the club parted company with him the following March after four losses in five matches.

Wycombe selected him to replace Michael Dodds last September following a winless opening to the campaign. Duff guided the team to an 11th-place finish but was dismissed last month after they recorded three draws and two defeats in their first five league fixtures of the 2026-27 season.
