Burnley in negotiations to name Nicky Hayen as manager

Burnley are moving forward in discussions to bring in Genk manager Nicky Hayen as their new head coach.

Hayen, 45, has reportedly emerged as the leading candidate for the role after Scott Parker departed the club by a mutual agreement earlier in April.

It is understood that negotiations with Genk regarding Hayen’s release are still underway, with the deal yet to be finalised.

The Belgian manager previously led Welsh club Haverfordwest County during the 2021-22 campaign, and later had a stint at Club Brugge, which came to an end when he was dismissed in December 2025.

He took over at Genk later that same month, eventually guiding the team to seventh place in the league table, though they narrowly missed out on a spot in European competition.

The Clarets had earlier approached the Football Association of Wales with interest in securing national team boss Craig Bellamy, but those talks fell apart during discussions over the composition of the coaching staff.

Rob Edwards, formerly the head coach at Wolves, is believed to have declined an approach from Burnley to succeed Parker.

Burnley’s squad is scheduled to travel to the United States for pre-season, where they are set to play friendly matches against FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, and Real Salt Lake.

The Lancashire club finished 19th in the Premier League last season, resulting in immediate relegation back to the Championship.
