Bayern Munich began their Champions League campaign in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 victory over Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.
The six-time champions struggled to break down Bodo/Glimt before the interval, but the contest changed when Jamal Musiala fired home the opening goal two minutes into the second half.
Harry Kane headed in the second goal on the hour mark, taking his tally to 34 goals in 39 Champions League games for Bayern. Alphonso Davies then added a third with a powerful half-volley before Michael Olise struck twice late on to complete the rout for Vincent Kompany’s team.
Cesc Fàbregas’s Como made an impressive debut in Europe’s leading club tournament by defeating RB Leipzig 4-1.
Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas and Assane Diao scored to put Como firmly in command. Andrija Maksimović reduced the deficit for Leipzig, but Maximo Perrone found the net late on to seal a memorable 4-1 win in northern Italy.
Ten-man Slavia Prague endured a painful home defeat against Lens, conceding twice in added time to lose 3-2.
The hosts were reduced to 10 players shortly after half-time when Mikulas Konecny was dismissed following a VAR review of his challenge. Danijel Sturm still put Slavia ahead minutes later, but Abdallah Sima equalised for Lens. Sturm restored the home side’s lead with his second goal in the 88th minute.
Florian Thauvin levelled the score in the 91st minute before Ruben Aguilar produced a precise finish to secure a dramatic victory for Lens.
PSV recovered from a goal down to earn a 1-1 home draw with Shakhtar Donetsk, ending their poor run in opening Champions League fixtures. The Dutch side had lost their first match in each of their previous five appearances in the competition, but Sergiño Dest’s equaliser rescued a point.
Late in a tightly contested first half, Gleiker Mendoza surprised the hosts by cutting inside from a wide position and driving a superb low shot beyond Matej Kovar. PSV responded soon after the restart when the ball reached Dest inside the penalty area and he calmly guided an accurate effort into the bottom corner.
Roma played out a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in Istanbul. Bryan Cristante gave the visitors the lead, but Archie Brown equalised three minutes after half-time. There was uncertainty after the game when Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal announced his resignation, only for the club president to state that he would remain in charge.
