Charlton climbed to the top of the Championship standings after defeating struggling Preston 1-0. Karlan Grant scored his first goal for the Addicks since returning on a free transfer from West Brom, leaving the south London club as the division’s only team with a perfect record.
Charlton have now won their first three second-tier fixtures for the first time since the 1992-93 season.
Millwall also began the day with a flawless record, but suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at Southampton. Mark Sykes put the Lions ahead early, only for Cyle Larin to score twice, while Finn Azaz, Leo Scienza and Tom Fellows also found the net for the hosts. The result means Southampton have erased the impact of their four-point Spygate penalty.

League One roundup: Yates enjoys successful Blackpool return
Show
Ian Evatt believes his league-leading Blackpool team can still improve despite extending their unbeaten start with an impressive 4-0 win against Peterborough.
Supporters’ favourite Jerry Yates celebrated his loan return from Luton by scoring the fourth after entering as a second-half substitute. Jordan Williams, Dion Charles and Karoy Anderson had already established a commanding advantage.
Evatt described it as an excellent outcome, saying a four-goal home victory combined with Yates scoring on his return made it an ideal afternoon.
Sheffield Wednesday overwhelmed Bromley 7-2 in an action-packed encounter. Callum Slattery opened the scoring from close range in the seventh minute before Mason Burstow struck from the edge of the penalty area shortly after the half-hour.
Jamal Lowe added another just before half-time. Louie Barry then scored twice within four minutes early in the second half, while Lowe claimed his second goal in the 73rd minute.
Gabriel Otegbayo added a seventh with nine minutes left before Bromley produced a late response. Substitute Victor Adeboyejo converted a penalty, and Otegbayo later put the ball into his own net.
Second-placed Huddersfield stayed level with Blackpool after Joe Taylor struck in the 82nd and 89th minutes to complete a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory at Cambridge.
Harry Wood scored twice as Stockport swept aside Wycombe 5-1, while Barnsley defeated Leyton Orient 3-1. Notts County recovered after the interval to beat Burton 2-1, Plymouth secured a 2-0 victory over Bradford, and Stevenage shared a 2-2 draw with Doncaster.
Russell Martin felt Leicester should have collected all three points following their goalless draw at MK Dons. The Foxes remain without a victory this season despite creating several opportunities at Stadium MK. Bobby De Cordova-Reid missed an early one-on-one chance against Craig MacGillivray, who produced several important saves, before Jayden Joseph struck the crossbar late in the match.
Martin praised the overall display but admitted the lack of a goal was decisive. He said the team’s determination and energy would have earned far more recognition had they converted one of their chances.
Wolves moved into second place after recovering from an early setback to defeat Stoke 4-1 and preserve their unbeaten league record. Sam Gallagher gave Stoke the lead with a spectacular strike in the second minute, but Rodrigo Gomes scored twice in three minutes to reverse the situation before half-time. Raúl Jiménez converted a penalty in the 55th minute, and Jordan James completed the scoring on his home debut with six minutes left.
Gallagher stunned the home side by holding off Marshall Munetsi and curling a superb 25-yard effort into the top corner. He nearly doubled the advantage when his next attempt was blocked, but Sorba Thomas sent the rebound wide.
Wolves drew level with their first meaningful opportunity in the 20th minute and went ahead three minutes later, with Gomes scoring both goals. The Portuguese forward reacted quickest after goalkeeper Viktor Johansson pushed away Jiménez’s side-footed shot, then struck again when Johansson failed to gather a Mateus Mané cross.
Ben Johnson impeded Jiménez at the far post as they challenged for Hugo Bueno’s corner. The Mexican converted the resulting penalty for his second goal of the season, sending Johansson in the opposite direction. James replaced Gomes in the 77th minute and later began and completed the move that produced Wolves’ fourth, finishing from 12 yards inside the goalkeeper’s left post.
West Ham are still searching for their first victory after drawing 1-1 away to Watford.
Swansea maintained their unbeaten league run with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Derby, thanks to goals from Joseph Opoku, Eom Ji-sung and Ronald.
Opoku registered his second goal since joining from Belgian side Zulte Waregem. Eom, who created the opener, then scored shortly before the interval, while Ronald added the third during second-half stoppage time.
The convincing result placed Swansea third on goal difference behind Wolves, with seven points from nine. Derby, meanwhile, remain without a win.
QPR also reached seven points after coming from behind to earn a 2-1 victory at Blackburn. Following an evenly contested first half, Ryoya Morishita gave Rovers the lead with an outstanding volley in the 49th minute. Paul Smyth equalised with a composed finish two minutes later, and Jimmy Dunne completed the comeback with a powerful header in the 74th minute.
Will Lankshear took his tally to six goals in five appearances since arriving from Tottenham as Middlesbrough continued their encouraging start with a 3-1 home victory against West Brom.
Lankshear scored twice at the Riverside, converting on both occasions after goalkeeper Max O’Leary had blocked the initial efforts. Jimmy-Jay Morgan briefly brought West Brom level in the second half, but Alfie Jones secured Middlesbrough’s victory with three minutes remaining. The result completed a productive week for Boro following their Carabao Cup triumph at Doncaster.

Dean Brennan praised Barnet for showing resilience as they recovered from a 2-1 deficit to preserve their unbeaten start with a 2-2 draw against Cheltenham.
Charlie Lakin put the Bees ahead within 11 minutes, but Ryan Broom equalised on the hour and Charlie McCann gave the visitors the lead four minutes later. Oisin Gallagher was subsequently fouled inside the penalty area, allowing Kabongo Tshimanga to convert the resulting spot-kick.
Brennan called it an excellent match and felt his team should have established a two-goal advantage. Although mistakes left Barnet trailing, he was pleased with their determination to continue fighting and earn a point.
The draw took Barnet to the top of the standings as one of five clubs with seven points. Walsall occupy second place after an entertaining 3-2 victory over Accrington. Reece Smith, Harrison Burke and Aaron Pressley scored for Walsall, with Josh Woods and Stefan Mols replying.
Jovan Malcolm scored on his York debut as the third-placed Minstermen defeated Exeter 2-1 at home. Exeter have not recorded an away victory since January. Alex Newby opened the scoring in the first half before Malcolm, recently recruited on loan from Stevenage, doubled the advantage. Jack Fitzwater pulled one back late on, but the visitors could not complete a comeback.
The other promoted club, Rochdale, remain without a point following a 1-0 loss at Colchester.
Alex Bruce believed Rotherham fully merited their dramatic 2-1 victory over Chesterfield at the New York Stadium. Substitute Paul Mullin became the match-winner by scoring his first goal for the Millers after coming on with fewer than 30 minutes remaining.
Mullin produced a composed finish in the 90th minute, shortly after Liam Mandeville had converted a penalty to cancel out Fábio Tavares’s first-half opener.
After securing his first win as Rotherham manager, Bruce expressed pride in the performance. He said the squad remained united and that the club’s many new arrivals had embraced the approach being introduced.
Lee Bell left Port Vale frustrated that Crewe collected only one point from a goalless draw. The Railwaymen have not conceded in their opening three matches, but Bell believed they created the better opportunities and delivered an outstanding away performance.
Bristol Rovers won 2-0 at Crawley, while Gillingham drew 1-1 with Northampton. The meetings between Grimsby and Fleetwood, and between Newport and Tranmere, both finished 2-2. Elsewhere, Oldham defeated Swindon 3-0, and Salford remained pointless after losing 1-0 at Shrewsbury.
Norwich recovered from their slow opening to the Championship season by recording an emphatic 4-1 home victory over struggling Burnley. The Canaries scored twice within the first five minutes and remained in control, with Mo Touré and Andre Brooks each finding the net twice to secure their first league win after two opening defeats.
Burnley endured another difficult afternoon, which ended with consolation goalscorer Josh Laurent being dismissed after receiving a second yellow card.
Lincoln claimed their first second-tier victory in 65 years as Ben House’s 66th-minute goal earned the reigning League One champions a 1-0 win at previously unbeaten Bolton. The Imps had lost their first two Championship matches, but after Wanderers failed to break through a disciplined defence, House struck to deliver Lincoln’s first victory at this level since April 1961.
Lorent Tolaj scored a spectacular first goal for Bristol City as they defeated Portsmouth 2-1 at home. The hosts moved ahead in the 31st minute after an excellent passing sequence. Yu Hirakawa and Jason Knight combined to release Jed Wallace on the left, whose cross was expertly turned in at the near post by former Plymouth striker Tolaj with a first-time right-footed finish.
Knight doubled the advantage with a header from a corner in the 56th minute. Portsmouth substitute Marezi reduced the deficit during stoppage time, sending Sam Tickle the wrong way from the penalty spot after Lisav Eissat fouled him inside the area.
Cardiff and Sheffield United remain without a victory after both recorded a third consecutive league draw in a 2-2 contest in south Wales. Jack Moylan put City ahead after only 80 seconds, but Tom Cannon won and converted a penalty one minute later. Callum O’Hare gave the Blades the lead three minutes after that, before Cian Ashford equalised prior to half-time.
