Chelsea are preparing to extend forward Joao Pedro’s contract until 2034 ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
People at Stamford Bridge believe the deal will soon be completed, while representatives close to the 24-year-old claim an agreement is already in place through 2032, including a club option for another two seasons.
The Brazil international is viewed within the club as an excellent signing following his move from Brighton last summer for an initial £55m, with a further £5m potentially due in add-ons.
Joao Pedro registered 20 non-penalty goals last season, becoming the first Chelsea striker to reach that mark in a single campaign since Diego Costa.
He also found the net three times during Chelsea’s successful Club World Cup run last summer and has scored eight goals across seven pre-season appearances.
Joao Pedro is expected to lead the attack when Chelsea begin their Premier League season away to Fulham on Monday, while new arrivals Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha are likely to serve as alternative options.
His impressive performances have earned him Chelsea’s number nine shirt, previously worn by Liam Delap. Delap could leave for approximately £50m, with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United showing interest.
Once the transfer window has shut, Chelsea plan to discuss fresh contracts with several important players, potentially including Levi Colwill and Estevao Willian.
