Chloe Kelly: What Lies Ahead for the Arsenal and England Forward?

News

Kelly hit the ground running after joining Arsenal midway through the 2024-25 campaign, registering two goals and five assists while helping the team secure their second Women’s Champions League trophy.

She later played a crucial part in England successfully defending their European Championship crown that summer, notably converting the decisive shootout penalty against Spain in the final.

The following season proved more difficult, however. Injuries restricted her to just four starts in the Women’s Super League, leaving her eager for the new campaign to begin on Friday, 4 September.

“I set myself ambitious targets and wanted to achieve something special during my first complete season with Arsenal, so it was frustrating not to have that opportunity,” she explains.

“This summer gave me the chance to improve my physical condition and find the right balance between gym sessions, training on the field and proper recovery.

“I feel like I am in an excellent position now. My priority is to remain healthy and energised throughout the season so that I am prepared whenever the team needs me.”

Although next summer’s World Cup in Brazil offers further motivation if England can progress through the autumn play-offs, Kelly is concentrating on her immediate objectives.

“Contributing goals and assists matters a great deal to me, so I intend to start strongly,” she says. “I will turn my attention to [the World Cup] when it gets a little nearer.”
