Como have renewed forward Roberta Picchi’s contract following her breast cancer diagnosis.
The Italian club, who are preparing for their first season in the women’s Serie A, confirmed that Picchi’s deal has been extended through the end of the 2027-28 campaign, underlining their ongoing support for her.
The 34-year-old Italian will soon start cancer treatment, with Como’s medical staff working alongside the specialists responsible for her care.
In a statement, the club said everyone at Como 1907 stands with Roberta and will provide all the assistance she and her family require in the coming months.
The club also requested that her privacy be respected while she concentrates on treatment and recovery.
Picchi helped Como secure last season’s Serie B championship, finishing 11 points ahead of Lumezzane and earning the club’s first promotion to the highest level of Italian women’s football.
Writing on social media, Picchi said that nothing in life should be taken for granted and that she considers herself fortunate.
She added that she is now ready to face this personal challenge and intends to return with even greater determination.
Selena Mazzantini’s Como will open their season against AC Milan on 26 September.
