Beyond the advantages in his personal life, Pressley feels Dundee is also the right place for his career. He believes the club is heading in the right direction despite losing several players during the summer.
Defenders Luke Graham and Billy Koumetio have joined Stoke City and Charlton Athletic, respectively. Goalkeeper Jon McCracken has signed for Bradford City, while important loan players including Yan Dhanda, Cameron Congreve and Tony Yogane have gone back to their parent clubs.
Pressley acknowledged the reality of the situation and warned that the team could still face a difficult period after losing so many significant and influential members of last season’s squad. He added that finding suitable replacements would not be easy.
He expressed confidence in the new arrivals but stressed that they would need time to adapt. Players required a similar settling-in period last season, and he expects the process to be no different this year.
Pressley therefore called for patience and a clear understanding of the circumstances.
Pressley said managing director John Nelms’ support played an important role in his decision to remain at the club. He also believes Motherwell’s recent achievements offer Dundee a model to follow.
He believes Dundee has considerable room to develop and improve.
Although he cannot attach a specific timeframe to that progress, Pressley pointed to another Scottish club as an excellent example for others to follow.
He highlighted Motherwell’s ability to secure exceptionally large transfer fees, nurture talent from within and qualify for European competition, describing those accomplishments as ambitions Dundee should share.
Dundee begin their Premiership campaign away to champions Celtic on Monday evening. Pressley views the fixture as a huge test but is eager to take it on.
He noted that Celtic have not been beaten at home in an opening-day match for almost 76 years.
Nevertheless, Pressley welcomes demanding assignments and believes his players tend to perform well when confronted with them.
