Fenerbahce optimistic about capturing Marseille’s Mason Greenwood

Transfer

Fenerbahce are becoming more certain about their chances of acquiring Mason Greenwood from Marseille.

The Ligue 1 side have shown a willingness to negotiate a transfer for the 24-year-old former Manchester United attacker.

Throughout the summer, both Fenerbahce and Roma have been mentioned as potential destinations for Greenwood.

Prior to the elections in early June, each of Fenerbahce’s presidential hopefuls publicly expressed their desire to sign the player.

The Istanbul club now feels an agreement worth roughly 45 million euros (£38.36m) can be reached with Marseille for Greenwood, who has found the net 48 times across 76 matches in all competitions since arriving from United in a £26.6m transfer in July 2024.

At that time, the Manchester side confirmed they had secured a significant sell-on clause, believed to be in the region of 40%.

Following an internal review, United decided against bringing Greenwood back to the team, even after charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped in February 2023.

He subsequently spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Spanish side Getafe.

Greenwood ended the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season tied for second place in the scoring charts, netting 16 goals and finishing just behind Rennes’ Esteban Lepaul.

Fenerbahce finished as runners-up in the Turkish Super Lig for a fifth consecutive year and are set to face Poland’s Gornik Zabrze in the Champions League second qualifying round this month.
