Uefa has initiated criminal proceedings against Fifa and its president, Gianni Infantino, concerning an abandoned proposal to sell interests in the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors.
According to documents related to the case, European football’s governing body has submitted an application seeking access to evidence and records for legal action in Switzerland against Infantino and Fifa.
The application states: “On July 28, 2026, without consulting the Fifa Council, Uefa, the other confederations, or any of Fifa’s 211 member associations, Infantino, claiming to act for Fifa, publicly disclosed a proposal to transfer the commercial rights for the men’s and women’s World Cups and the Club World Cup to a newly created subsidiary called Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE).
“The announcement brought to light a proposal that Infantino and a small group of alleged collaborators had reportedly devised and developed privately for more than a year.”
