Manchester United have sealed the £48m transfer of Brazilian international Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are in deep negotiations to sign Aston Villa‘s Youri Tielemans as they aim to rebuild their midfield.
It has also been reported that United’s proposed £35m move for Atalanta’s Ederson has been abandoned for the time being after a medical revealed an injury concern.
United reached an agreement on a fee with Chelsea for Santos last week, and the 22-year-old has now passed his medical and put pen to paper on a contract running to June 2031, which includes an option for an additional year.
“Andrey is a superb midfielder who possesses great technical skills and can influence the match in both defense and attack,” said director of football Jason Wilcox.
“He was a priority signing for us in a crucial area of the team.
“Although he already boasts considerable experience, leadership qualities, and has demonstrated his talent on the biggest stage, Andrey still has immense potential for growth, and we are eagerly anticipating watching him thrive at Manchester United.”
Santos was a member of the Chelsea side that captured the Club World Cup in 2025 and featured in 43 matches for them during the previous campaign.
At Old Trafford he will operate under United manager Michael Carrick, a former England midfielder.
“Everything surrounding Manchester United is exceptional,” he stated. “It is an amazing sensation to become part of a club where some of my greatest heroes have played.
“As a midfielder, I am truly thrilled to get the chance to learn from Michael Carrick. He is the ideal coach to assist me in advancing to the next phase of my career and striving to realize my ambitions.
“Everyone spoke to me about the club’s great ambition and the fantastic atmosphere that has been fostered here. I am fully aware of how powerful the squad is and I can hardly wait to battle alongside my new teammates to challenge for the most prestigious silverware.”
Santos, who was omitted from the World Cup squad, has already commenced training with United.
This indicates he might take part in the early stages of their pre-season program, which kicks off against Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July.
