Morecambe cautioned by football regulator over requests for information

Uncategorized

The independent football oversight body has formally cautioned Morecambe after the club’s proprietors disregarded repeated inquiries concerning the management of the team.

This marks the inaugural enforcement measure taken by the IFR since the Football Governance Act was enacted one year ago.

Morecambe directors Kuljit Singh and Harjit Singh neglected to answer two separate demands for documentation made under section 65 of the legislation.

“The IFR has delivered a formal warning to Morecambe Football Club Limited and to the club’s two proprietors,” an official IFR release noted.

“A preliminary judgement has been reached that the proprietors violated mandatory disclosure duties without adequate justification and, pursuant to the Football Governance Act, the IFR is consequently leaning toward publishing a formal reprimand aimed at these individuals along with the club.”

A formal reprimand empowers the IFR to publicly identify football outfits, proprietors, board members or top-level officials who fall short of licensing criteria.

Additional authority encompasses monetary fines, court orders requiring adherence to rules and the suspension or withdrawal of a club’s permit to operate.

The IFR’s jurisdiction covers sides competing in the National League.

Even though Morecambe dropped into National League North last term, the IFR retains the ability to apply its rules.

Morecambe were acquired out of administration last August by the Panjab Warriors group.

Nonetheless, in March the outfit found themselves under a registration embargo stemming from a contested sum owed to former proprietors Bond Group Investments. The restriction was removed before the month concluded.

That same month Morecambe were hit with a winding-up petition due to outstanding supplier invoices, a matter which was ultimately settled.
