The opening four matches of the 2026 Nations League mark Graham’s second involvement with Northern Ireland’s senior squad, following his selection for the June friendlies against Guinea and France.
He was preparing to come on against France, but the match ended before he could make his senior international debut. O’Neill believed Graham had earned an opportunity after impressing in training during the June fixtures.
Discussing the future role of the 5ft 9in forward, O’Neill stressed that players do not all develop physically at the same pace.
O’Neill said he had followed Graham’s progress closely since the player was around 14 or 15 years old.
He explained that physical development varies from player to player and noted that succeeding as a Premier League striker is particularly challenging because clubs often look for a specific type of forward.
However, he described Graham as a gifted and technically accomplished footballer with excellent finishing ability, a strong left foot and an intelligent approach to the game.
