Pep Guardiola Documentary Exposes Heated Kyle Walker Rift

Guardiola does not suggest that his private difficulties reduced his effectiveness at work, but Manel Estiarte, a longstanding member of his coaching staff, describes reassuring players who had become concerned about the manager’s conduct.

Estiarte says the players noticed that Guardiola appeared tense and were worried about him.

He adds that the coach seemed unhappy and unlike his usual self, while only Estiarte understood what was behind the change.

Estiarte told the squad not to view Guardiola merely as an intense and occasionally unpredictable coach, but as a person experiencing the emotional strain of a divorce.

The documentary combines footage of Guardiola closely analysing tactics with unguarded team talks in which he challenges and strongly criticises his players.

After losing to Bayer Leverkusen in November 2025, he tells the squad that he has set aside his personal life and endured separation from his family to support them, before questioning what they have offered in return.

He condemns the team’s display as completely unacceptable.

Guardiola says performances of that kind leave him physically and emotionally depleted, make him consider resigning and create a sense that he is facing the situation alone.

In several sequences, the Spanish coach warns his players that the club could appoint someone else unless their results and performances improve.

At other points, he uses the image of a knife reaching their hearts to describe the emotional response he wants. He also asks the squad to embrace one another and him before games, and even links disappointing displays to celebrations that lack enthusiasm.

Guardiola left his position as City manager after the 2025-26 season, ending a decade at the Etihad in which he collected 20 trophies. His final campaign included victories in both the FA Cup and the League Cup.

Discussing his future, Guardiola acknowledges that he has not decided what to do next. He believes returning to management may be challenging because he needs time to recover and process major events in his personal life.
