Richarlison has not been named in Tottenham‘s Premier League squad.
Tottenham head coach Roberto de Zerbi revealed last week that the Brazilian forward had requested a move away. A return to former club Everton appeared likely before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, but the proposed switch did not materialise.
The 29-year-old has consequently been omitted from the club’s squad for top-flight fixtures during the opening half of the campaign.
Richarlison is understood to be outside Tottenham’s plans for the current season, and the player was informed of the situation before Tuesday’s deadline.
He could depart in the coming days because the transfer markets in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open.
Richarlison moved to Tottenham from Everton in the summer of 2022, four years after joining the Merseyside club from Watford.
The forward is now in the last year of his contract with the London side. Although he started the opening league defeat against Brentford, he was absent from De Zerbi’s squad for Saturday’s 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United.
Speaking after that match, De Zerbi said he was unsure about Richarlison’s situation and added that the player had repeatedly expressed a desire to leave.
Earlier in August, the Tottenham manager acknowledged that the Brazilian’s future was unclear while stressing how difficult it would be to find another striker with similar qualities.
Tottenham have since brought in Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush on loan, and he took Richarlison’s place against Newcastle.
Richarlison led Tottenham’s league scoring chart last season, registering 11 goals and four assists across 32 appearances. He played an important role in their battle to remain in the Premier League, with safety eventually confirmed on the final day.
