Scotland 0-3 Switzerland: Sebastien Pocognoli remains hopeful of fond Hampden memories despite loss

Scotland had enough opportunities to defeat Slovenia at the weekend, but costly misses from Oli McBurnie and Kieron Bowie ultimately denied them victory.

However, their attacking approach and confident play in possession during the second half offered encouragement to supporters travelling to Hampden.

That momentum disappeared when Hendry made a reckless challenge on Dan Ndoye while racing back, forcing Scotland to defend deep and focus on limiting their opponents.

“The dismissal completely changes your strategy,” former Scotland defender Stephen O’Donnell explained. “Strong teams gradually wear you down and punish mistakes, which is exactly what happened.”

Hendry’s red card placed Scotland under heavy pressure, but his team-mates continued to support him after the match.

“He wanted to say sorry to everyone, but the manager told him these moments are simply part of football,” Gunn said, despite perhaps feeling he could have prevented at least one of Switzerland’s goals.

“We stand together as a team, and nobody needs to apologise.”
