The Scottish Football Association will organise a “critically important” summit to examine the future direction of the country’s game.
All Scottish Professional Football League clubs have received an email inviting them to the forum, scheduled for 4 September in St Andrews.
According to the invitation, the association plans to explore opportunities for developing homegrown players and learn from clubs that have successfully improved their elite talent programmes.
The message adds that the meeting will concentrate on the “current reality” confronting Scottish football.
Discussions will also cover ways to create better pathways for Scottish talent and generate additional income for clubs.
The meeting follows the men’s national team’s failure to progress beyond the group stage at the World Cup, their first appearance at the tournament since 1998.
Chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland will lead the summit.
