Substitute Bojan Miovski delivered a thrilling stoppage-time winner as Rangers secured a 1-0 Premiership victory over St Mirren at Ibrox.
Returning to the technical area after serving a two-match touchline ban, Derek McInnes saw St Mirren’s Australian goalkeeper Jacob Chapman frustrate the hosts with several first-half saves, although wasteful finishing also played a part.
Craig McLeish’s team, beaten 5-1 at Ibrox in the Premier Sports Cup the previous month, became increasingly assured after half-time. Fraser Taylor squandered an excellent opportunity, while the home crowd’s frustration began to resemble the unrest seen earlier in the season.
Miovski, who had replaced Djeidi Gassama, reacted quickest inside the penalty area during the closing seconds of normal time and scored the decisive goal, sealing a fourth successive victory.
Summer arrival Mika Baur opened his account for Celtic as the Scottish champions continued their flawless title defence with a 1-0 away win against St Johnstone.
The German midfielder converted from close range shortly after the interval, having watched debutant goalkeeper Sam Johnstone produce an outstanding first-half stop to deny Saints midfielder Joel Cotterill.
The match allowed Celtic head coach Martin O’Neill to highlight the strength of his squad ahead of Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup Old Firm clash away to Rangers. Camilo Duran, Benjamin Nygren and Kieran Tierney started on the bench, while defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was rested.
Despite falling short of their most commanding form, the Hoops did enough to complete a sixth straight league victory of the campaign and extend their winning run across all competitions to 13 matches, dating back to the final weeks of last season.
