The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) distributed an unprecedented £49.6m to its clubs over the past year.
Payments rose by £7.6m, representing an 18% increase, with most of the income generated through broadcasting agreements, licensing, match data and sponsorship deals.
Chief executive Neil Doncaster said the figures demonstrate the SPFL’s lasting appeal in an increasingly competitive global market for broadcasting rights.
Doncaster described them as the strongest financial results in the organisation’s history, with revenue and overall group payments exceeding last year’s records. He added that the league intends to continue building on this progress.
Scottish Premiership attendance exceeded four million for the first time last season, while the competition continued to record Europe’s highest crowds relative to population size.
Published figures indicated that around six million supporters attended Scottish men’s football matches during the 2025-26 season. This included 900,000 spectators in the lower divisions, 200,000 at domestic cup fixtures and 800,000 at European games.
Doncaster added that combining broadcasting income with strong match-day attendance and the distinctive atmosphere of full stadiums is essential to the SPFL’s reputation as one of the world’s most intense, engaging and emotional sporting competitions.
