Toddler Runs Onto Pitch During Minnesota United Win

A young child unexpectedly ran onto the pitch during Saturday’s Major League Soccer game between Minnesota United and the San Jose Earthquakes, prompting a surprised television analyst to announce that a baby was on the field.

With roughly 90 seconds remaining in Minnesota’s 5-1 victory at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, the toddler entered the playing area and caused the referee to halt the match.

The child seemed delighted by the brief adventure before a stadium staff member picked them up and returned them to a woman believed to be their mother.

Apple TV analyst Kyndra de St Aubin reacted with surprise after noticing the baby wandering across the pitch.

The broadcast team compared the unusual interruption with earlier pitch invasions, including an incident involving a raccoon in May 2024.

The animal, later nicknamed “Raquinho”, roamed onto the playing surface before eventually being captured with the help of a trash can.

Four people were needed to capture the raccoon during a match featuring New York City FC and the Philadelphia Union.

At the time, Apple TV commentator Callum Williams joked that the raccoon deserved a ball because of how effectively it moved through midfield, adding that he had rarely witnessed such an unusual and lengthy interruption.

During Saturday’s broadcast, one commentator said the toddler’s appearance was even more entertaining than the raccoon incident and pointed out that the child had reached the edge of the 18-yard box.

Minnesota manager Cameron Knowles later explained that the crowd’s reaction drew his attention and made him look toward the field to discover what had happened.

He joked that the child was far too young to risk receiving a lifetime stadium ban.

Reports indicated that Saturday’s interruption was the third occasion since 2021 in which a child had entered the pitch during a match.

In June 2025, during a game between DC United and the Chicago Fire, another baby reached the field before security personnel carried the child away.

A similar event occurred in Ohio in 2021, when a mother rushed onto the pitch to retrieve her two-year-old son during a match between FC Cincinnati and Orlando City FC.

Following Saturday’s incident, Minnesota United’s X account celebrated the convincing victory over San Jose with the playful message, “Like taking money from a baby.”
