Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons has begun studying at the renowned Harvard University in the United States while recovering from a serious knee injury.
The 23-year-old Dutch playmaker has not featured since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in April, which also prevented him from taking part in the World Cup.
Simons has been accepted onto, external Harvard’s Crossover into Business programme, which helps professional athletes strengthen their knowledge of business and commerce.
Delivered online, the programme connects athletes with Harvard MBA students who guide them through real-world case studies and business management topics.
Simons announced on LinkedIn that he was returning to education.
He explained that he wanted to make productive use of his rehabilitation period. Although football remains his primary focus, he is also determined to continue learning and developing beyond the sport.
Simons recently visited the United States to intensify his physical rehabilitation and also spent time at Harvard’s campus in Boston.
He stressed that returning to action remains his highest priority.
However, he also sees his time away from the pitch as an opportunity to expand his knowledge and invest in his personal development outside football, adding that he is eager to begin the programme.
