A training session was called off after Wolves forward Tolu Arokodare declined to exit the field.
Sources indicate the 25-year-old Nigerian player sat on the turf and insisted the club sanction a transfer to Fiorentina.
Wolves turned down an approach from the Italian top-flight outfit, having already agreed to a proposal from Turkey’s Trabzonspor.
The striker’s protest prompted recently appointed head coach Cesar Peixoto to halt Monday’s workout.
Arokodare was absent from Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United as the squad continues its preparations.
In a social media statement on Wednesday night, Arokodare shared: “I have always taken immense pride in behaving professionally and upholding the best practices in training throughout my time in the game.
“My dedication has consistently been geared towards readying myself to support my colleagues and the team whenever selected.
“I am still contracted to Wolves, and my sole aim is to honor my obligations by training, performing my duties, and helping the side in line with that agreement.”
This latest flare-up adds another controversial chapter to the attacker’s stint at Molineux, following a disciplinary matter in April after an altercation with young forward Mateus Mane.
Arokodare arrived from Genk last summer for a fee of £24 million but found the net just three times in league play as Wolves placed last in the top flight and suffered relegation.
The situation also delivers an immediate test for Peixoto, who is only a few weeks into the role after unexpectedly succeeding Rob Edwards last month.
The 46-year-old, who earned a single cap for Portugal during his playing days, made the switch from Gil Vicente and will be focused on guiding Wolves back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
