Will Scotland boss Sebastien Pocognoli replace Angus Gunn after his display in the defeat to Switzerland?

Falkirk goalkeeper Scott Bain has taken the place of the retired Gordon in the squad for this Nations League campaign, although Scotland’s current goalkeeping options appear less convincing than those available in previous years.

That raises the question of whether Pocognoli will consider selecting a different goalkeeper for Saturday’s game against North Macedonia and Tuesday’s meeting with Slovenia.

“I cannot see anyone making an overwhelming case to take the shirt from him, especially since several of the alternatives are not playing regularly,” Halliday said.

“He likely deserves to remain the first choice, but Angus Gunn does not inspire the same level of confidence as Craig Gordon, Allan McGregor, David Marshall, Jim Leighton or Andy Goram. Those are the goalkeepers Scotland have relied upon over the past two or three decades.

“When I review the first and third goals, I wonder whether those former goalkeepers would have stopped them. Some may disagree about the third because the shot carried so much power, but I believe they would have saved both.”
