A hearing date has been scheduled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to address Senegal’s challenge to the revocation of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations crown.
Morocco, the hosting nation, were named champions after the Confederation of African Football (Caf) reversed the outcome of January’s final, a match Senegal had won 1-0.
The Senegal team left the pitch following the award of a stoppage-time penalty to Morocco while the score was still 0-0.
After an interruption of roughly 17 minutes, play resumed, and Brahim Diaz’s spot-kick was stopped; later, Pape Gueye of Senegal netted the decisive goal in extra time.
Senegal submitted their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) on March 25, aiming to overturn Caf’s ruling and be restored as champions.
Caf determined that Senegal had abandoned the final and consequently declared Morocco 3-0 victors.
Since neither Caf nor the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) consented to an accelerated process, a hearing is now set for October 8.
Per a Cas announcement, this adheres to the usual procedural schedule.
As Caf and the FRMF opted not to ask for a public hearing, the proceedings will be held privately at Cas’s base in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Cas is unable to specify when a final verdict will be issued, though it will not be delivered on the hearing date.
