Ipswich Town have completed the acquisition of Moroccan international Issa Diop from Fulham for an undisclosed sum.
The 29-year-old centre-back, who made five appearances during Morocco’s journey to the World Cup quarter-finals, has agreed to a contract lasting until the summer of 2030.
Diop arrives with considerable top-tier knowledge to a side that earned promotion from the second division last term, having featured in 173 top-flight matches for both Fulham and West Ham United.
“I’m thrilled to begin this new chapter of my career with Ipswich Town,” stated Diop.
“I understand the stature of this organisation and have valued every discussion leading up to this transfer. I am certain this is the ideal environment for me.
“The summer has been eventful, competing for my country at the World Cup, but I feel a great sense of pride in joining Ipswich Town and eagerly await meeting the coaching staff, my new colleagues, and the fans soon.”
Diop initially moved to West Ham from Toulouse in 2018, spending four years with the London club before his switch to Fulham in a deal worth £15m in 2022.
He made 96 total appearances for his previous side, although he was limited to just eight league starts last season.
Diop represents the sixth summer arrival for Ipswich, a list that already includes Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu, who joined from Leicester for £20m earlier in the week.
Forward Emersonn also completed a move from Toulouse earlier this month, arriving for a record fee in the region of £26m.
Defender Cedric Kipre and attacker Chuba Akpom both secured permanent contracts following productive loan spells last season, while goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen joined from Dutch club FC Volendam.
