Manchester City have tied Phil Foden to a new four-year contract, with an option for an additional 12 months, meaning the 26-year-old will remain at the Etihad until 2030. The forward said he is determined to keep pursuing more trophies at the club he supported as a child.
Foden is excited to work with Enzo Maresca once more — the new City manager had been Pep Guardiola’s assistant during the 2022-23 campaign when the side lifted three major trophies.
“Committing my future to this club is everything,” Foden explained. “Wearing the jersey is something I never take for granted. I’ve been lucky to enjoy an era full of success, but we always have one eye on the next challenge and want to add more silverware.”
He added his gratitude to the club hierarchy, his fellow players, the staff and supporters who continue to believe in him, and promised to repay that trust over the coming years. Foden also spoke warmly about reuniting with Maresca, describing him as a coach the squad held in high regard during the treble-winning season.
“Having Enzo back is really exciting. I feel I’ve developed so much by training alongside top-class teammates and coaches, and I’m looking forward to the next stage of my journey with this special club.”
Following the exits of John Stones and Bernardo Silva, Foden stands as the most decorated player in the current squad, having claimed 17 major honours. His collection features six Premier League titles, one Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, a Uefa Super Cup and a Club World Cup.
Reflecting on how long he has been at City, Foden admitted: “Not in a million years would I have expected this. My ambition was just to reach the first team, so to still be here is something I’m truly enjoying and trying to make the most of.”
Foden believes Maresca’s approach will suit him perfectly. After only a handful of sessions, he highlighted the new manager’s emphasis on building from defence and dominating possession, a style that aligns well with his own strengths and could elevate his performances to a higher level.
The lengthy deal signals the strong faith Maresca and director of football Hugo Viana have in Foden’s ability to regain his finest form. He lost his regular starting spot under Guardiola and missed out on England’s World Cup squad. His displays have dipped since he played a starring role in City’s 2023-24 title triumph and collected both the Football Writers’ Association and Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year awards.
Last season, after a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on 4 March, Foden started just two league matches and was substituted 58 minutes into a 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Southampton. Entirely a product of the club, he joined City’s academy when he was eight years old.
Viana said the entire organisation takes huge pride in Foden’s journey and that he represents the very best of their youth system. “He’s a unique talent and his creativity is a joy to watch. Everything he has accomplished comes from his relentless focus, dedication and willingness to learn from coaches and teammates.”

After City’s 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace in 2025, Foden revealed he had been dealing with personal difficulties away from the pitch. He also disclosed he had been playing through discomfort caused by an ankle injury sustained in a Casemiro challenge during a goalless draw at Manchester United that April.
