Barcelona have secured German winger Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund on a contract running to 2031, and Newcastle are poised to complete the signing of Aladji Bamba as their fourth addition of the summer.
The La Liga side will pay approximately €22 million (£19 million) with additional performance-related bonuses, and the deal incorporates a sell-on clause.
“FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have agreed terms for the transfer of forward Karim Adeyemi, who has committed his future to the Catalan club until 2031,” Barcelona announced.
Adeyemi moved to Dortmund in 2022 from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg and went on to play 146 matches for the Bundesliga outfit, netting 36 goals across all competitions. The 24-year-old will be reunited with Hansi Flick, who gave him his senior international debut for Germany during Flick’s two-year tenure as national team manager.
Adeyemi is Barcelona’s second attacking signing of the window, following the acquisition of Anthony Gordon.
Gordon’s former team, Newcastle, meanwhile, are about to unveil Aladji Bamba as their fourth summer recruit. The 20-year-old Monaco midfielder travelled to Tyneside on Thursday ahead of a £34 million transfer from the Ligue 1 club.
If everything goes as expected, Bamba will become the fourth player aged 20 or under that Eddie Howe has brought in this summer. The France Under-20 midfielder, who made 25 first-team appearances for Monaco last season, will join former Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen (20), ex-Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Touré (20), and former Ajax midfielder Sean Steur (18).
Newcastle’s revised recruitment strategy focuses on signing players aged 24 or under, typically costing between £20 million and £40 million, with strong resale value. The aim is to keep the club, which recently agreed a three-year settlement with UEFA after breaching European spending regulations, compliant with football’s financial rules on squad investment.
As Bamba favours operating as a defensive midfielder, he is viewed as the successor to Italy international Sandro Tonali, who joined Tottenham from Newcastle in a deal worth an initial £92.5 million.
Howe remains hopeful of retaining Bruno Guimarães despite interest from Arsenal. Mikel Arteta is eager to bring the Brazil midfielder into his squad, and Newcastle’s captain is thought to be keen on a move to north London.
Arsenal, however, have not yet submitted a formal bid for Guimarães, and Newcastle insist that a player who will turn 29 later this year is not on the market. They appear unlikely to entertain offers below approximately £75 million.
