McInnes Hints Rangers Signing Could Be Done in 48 Hours
“I would be very pleased if that happened because I still believe we lack depth in one or two positions on the pitch.
“One addition will be permanent, while the other could arrive on loan, although our preference would be to complete two permanent deals.”
McInnes expressed frustration over the limited opportunities created during Sunday’s final pre-season match, which ended in a scoreless home draw against West Ham United.
“We simply need players who can change games,” he explained. “A club of our size requires individuals capable of taking on opponents, winning one-on-one situations and operating effectively from either flank.
“Therefore, we are searching for additional creativity to provide better support for our forwards.
“We have finishers such as Nadiri, Chermiti, Shankland and Miovski, and each of them is capable of converting opportunities.
“Chermiti may be the only one who can regularly fashion a chance on his own. Ryan, Lawrence and Bojan, however, rely much more heavily on the quality of service they receive.”
McInnes also believes the squad is lacking defensive depth ahead of a demanding schedule featuring four matches in 12 days.
“We only had five experienced defenders available, and Ross McCrorie felt some discomfort in his knee, so we chose not to take any chances with him today,” he said.
Rangers have recruited three holding midfielders during the summer as they prepare for the possibility of Raskin leaving the club.
When asked whether the Belgian would feature at Tannadice, McInnes replied: “He will not be involved at the beginning of the campaign, but looking further ahead, we understand that Nico could attract interest from elsewhere.
“Following the World Cup, we always believed there was a possibility he could depart this summer, which is why we strengthened our midfield options.
“However, if no offers arrive for Nico, we will have another high-quality player available to us.”
Asked whether any departures were close to being completed, McInnes added: “There has been a little interest in one or two players, although I will not mention any names.”
