With the second week of August drawing closer, City have completed just one signing. Elliot Anderson is expected to earn a place in the starting lineup this season.
The England international arrived from Nottingham Forest for a club-record £116m. The 23-year-old appears set to fill the role left vacant by Bernardo Silva, who moved to Real Madrid after his contract expired.
Young winger Jeremy Monga could feature at academy level following his transfer from Leicester. Goalkeeper Pierce Charles and winger Mathys Detourbet, meanwhile, were sent out on loan immediately after signing.
New manager Enzo Maresca revealed on Tuesday that football director Hugo Viana and chief executive Ferran Soriano had travelled to South Korea, where the squad are holding their pre-season camp. The Italian acknowledged that the club still need to take action in the transfer market.
Although officials accept that recruitment has progressed more slowly than intended, senior figures at City remain composed and confident in the club’s transfer plan.
The club have also highlighted that long-term targets Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi were recruited in January. Those deals were originally planned for this summer, and both players have already made a strong impression.
City consider the squad youthful and full of potential after winning both domestic cup competitions last season. Brazilian defender Vitor Reis, 20, is returning from a season-long spell with Girona and is expected to join the senior group.
Regarding possible exits, Rodri has yet to agree to a new contract and is attracting interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Fellow midfielder Tijjani Reijnders could also depart, with Nottingham Forest among his potential suitors.
Winger Savinho is also understood to be willing to consider a move away, with Tottenham assessing a possible deal, although no concrete progress has been made.
Under the current plan, any player who leaves the club would be replaced.
Chelsea winger Pedro Neto is among the players being considered, while discussions continue over Lille’s Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
Despite limited transfer activity so far, the club’s leadership remains calm about the situation.
