Aberdeen have completed the signing of Belgian attacker Mitchy Ntelo from Swiss club Yverdon-Sport for an undisclosed amount. Manager Stephen Robinson highlighted the forward’s ability to play in several positions as a major reason behind the move.
The 25-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract, with Aberdeen holding an option to extend the deal for another season. He is capable of playing through the middle or on either flank.
Ntelo has made almost 150 appearances at club level and registered 30 goals. During a loan spell with Bulgarian team Botev Vratsa last season, he scored six times in six starts.
Robinson said Aberdeen had monitored Ntelo for a considerable period and were pleased to have finally secured his services.
The manager described him as a tall and extremely fast player who is comfortable operating both as a central forward and in wider attacking roles.
While most of Ntelo’s goals have come from central areas, Aberdeen believe his qualities can also make him effective on the wings. His arrival adds a different option out wide while increasing competition for the centre-forward position.
Ntelo began his professional journey with hometown side Standard Liege before enjoying a successful loan period at Dutch club MVV Maastricht.
He later represented Charleroi and Bulgarian outfit Lokomotiv Plovdiv before moving to Yverdon-Sport two years ago. Following the Swiss club’s relegation from the top division, he joined Botev Vratsa on loan earlier this year.
Ntelo said joining a club with Aberdeen’s tradition and strong fanbase represented an important step in his career and made his arrival a proud occasion.
He added that he was determined to complete the transfer as soon as he learned of Aberdeen’s interest, noting the club’s status as one of the leading teams in the competition.
