Delano Burgzorg converted the decisive shootout penalty after Jusef Erabi’s stoppage-time equaliser helped 10-man Preston eliminate Huddersfield from the Carabao Cup. The match was staged at Goodison Park, Everton’s former home, because the playing surface at Deepdale was not yet ready.

Daniel Iversen made two saves in the shootout following a dramatic conclusion to normal time. The contest finished 1-1 after Erabi responded to Radinio Balker’s opener, despite Preston playing 69 minutes with 10 men after Lewis Gibson was sent off.

Huddersfield repeatedly threatened from set pieces and broke the deadlock seven minutes before half-time when Balker headed into the net. Preston found it difficult to cope with their numerical disadvantage before the interval, but improved after the restart and drew level in the third minute of stoppage time through Erabi’s powerful finish.

Burgzorg calmly secured the shootout victory after Huddersfield failed with two attempts, while Matty Young denied Andrew Moran from the spot.

Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen stopped all four penalties taken by QPR as the visitors claimed a 2-0 shootout win at Loftus Road. Mark Sykes’s late own goal cancelled out Luke Cundle’s second-half strike, leaving the teams level at 1-1 after 90 minutes. Jensen produced excellent saves to deny Ilias Chair, Harvey Vale and Koki Saito before keeping out Kwame Poku’s attempt to confirm the result.

Cambridge completed a rapid turnaround to defeat Barnet 2-1. Barnet moved ahead shortly after the interval, but goals from Ben Knight and Isaac Heath put the Us in front within eight minutes.

Barnet opened the scoring four minutes into the second half. Callum Perry and Kell Watts both made impressive goal-line clearances, but Kabongo Tshimanga collected the rebound and found the net.

Cambridge responded only three minutes later when Knight’s shot took a deflection after a well-worked move featuring Perry and Glenn McConnell. Five minutes afterwards, Louis Appere delivered a low cross that debutant Heath skilfully redirected into the goal.
