Portland Thorns midfielder Olivia Moultrie will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an ACL injury, the National Women’s Soccer League club confirmed on Tuesday.
The US international sustained the injury to her right knee during a training session last week, according to the team.
Moultrie said she was devastated to be separated from the sport she loves but remained determined to return stronger after completing her recovery. She shared the message in a social media post.
The 20-year-old recorded five goals and five assists for the Thorns this season. She joined Portland in 2021 after successfully challenging a league rule that prevented clubs from signing players younger than 18.
Thorns president and general manager Jeff Agoos described Moultrie as an exceptionally motivated player and said the club would provide all available support and resources throughout her rehabilitation.
At international level, Moultrie has scored five goals in 18 appearances for the United States. She also received the country’s Young Player of the Year award in 2023.
The injury is also expected to keep Moultrie out of the Concacaf W Championship, a qualifying tournament for next summer’s Women’s World Cup.
