Ipswich Town have secured the services of midfielder Abdoul Ouattara from French side Strasbourg.
The 20-year-old Ivory Coast player has agreed to a five-year deal in a transfer reportedly worth £17m. The move reunites him with Gary O’Neil, who managed Strasbourg during the previous Ligue 1 season.
Ouattara said he immediately embraced the chance to compete in England’s top division and work once again with a manager he already knows well.
He added that, despite his young age, he has already gained valuable experience and is eager to meet his new supporters and teammates before beginning the next stage of his career.
Ouattara featured 45 times for Strasbourg in France’s highest division and helped the club advance to the Uefa Conference League semi-finals last season.
O’Neil described Ouattara as a promising and versatile young footballer whose ability to operate in several roles will strengthen the squad.
The manager also said he enjoyed coaching the midfielder in France and is pleased they will have the opportunity to work together again at Ipswich.
Following their promotion from the Championship last season, Ipswich have now invested £124m, with Ouattara becoming their 11th significant arrival.
Ipswich will open their Premier League season with a home fixture against Sunderland on 22 August.
