Elijah Just is one of several newcomers adapting to life at Swansea. The attacking midfielder, who plays alongside Stamenic at international level, scored three times at the World Cup.
Stamenic revealed that he had some involvement in Just’s transfer from Motherwell, speaking with both the player and Swansea chief executive Tom Gorringe while negotiations were taking place.
“I have helped bring him here now,” Stamenic says with a smile.
“He is a gifted and excellent footballer, as well as a wonderful person. I am delighted that he is here, and I hope the club will soon recognise everything he can offer.”
Just made his first league appearance against Stoke, lining up with fellow summer arrivals Stephen Welsh, Joseph Opoku and Moussa Yeo.
Ross Stewart, another player signed during the summer, is set to be available for the first time this weekend. That leaves Swansea with a relatively strong squad, although further transfer business may still be required.
Following last season’s 11th-place finish, Stamenic believes Swansea should aim higher in 2026-27. However, echoing Matos’ approach, he stressed that the team’s immediate attention remains on the upcoming fixture.
“We cannot deny that promotion is the target and the ambition shared by everyone here,” Stamenic says.
“Still, our daily priority is to work hard in training and maintain high standards. Once Saturday arrives, the focus is simply on carrying out our responsibilities.”
