Brentford 3-0 Tottenham: Player Ratings

News

Antonin Kinsky: A difficult outing for Tottenham’s new first-choice goalkeeper. His failure to deal cleanly with Jensen’s effort allowed Janelt to score, while his distribution was often inaccurate. 5

Archie Gray: Became the youngest captain in Tottenham’s history, although there was little reason to celebrate. Filling in at right-back, he understandably looked uncomfortable in the unfamiliar role. 5

Marcos Senesi: Found it difficult to handle Igor Thiago’s strength and the intelligent movement of the players operating around Brentford’s Brazilian forward. 5

Jan Paul van Hecke: Endured many of the same problems as Senesi and rarely appeared settled in Tottenham’s disorganised defence. 5

Andrew Robertson: A challenging debut for the experienced left-back, who had trouble containing Brentford’s speed and movement down the right side. 5

Conor Gallagher: Suffered several firm challenges early on and sent an ambitious attempt wide. He was cautioned for fouling Sangare and was predictably withdrawn at the interval. 4

Lucas Bergvall: Misplaced too many passes and carelessly surrendered possession in the build-up to Brentford’s second goal. 4

Sandro Tonali: A deeply disappointing Tottenham debut for the £100m arrival. One first-half attempt drew sarcastic applause, and he failed to make any meaningful impact on the contest. 4

Mikey Moore: The youngster received little assistance while isolated on the right wing, but he still showed flashes of danger and forced Kelleher into action. 6

Richarlison: Offered very little and became increasingly discouraged as the match progressed. 4

Mathys Tel: An inventive early touch suggested he might pose a threat, but he soon faded from view. 4

Substitutes:

Mateus Fernandes (on 45, Gallagher): Made little impression after entering for his debut. 5

Rodrigo Bentancur (on 45, Bergvall): Conceded a penalty during an underwhelming appearance. 5

James Maddison (on 68, Moore): Had too little time to influence proceedings. 5

Dominic Solanke (on 68, Richarlison): Entered after the outcome had already been decided. 5

Destiny Udogie (on 86, Gray)

Unused substitutes: Dubravka, Danso, Davies, Williams-Barnett.
