Leeds Defender Joe Rodon Sidelined for Up to 10 Weeks with Hamstring Injury

News

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has confirmed that central defender Joe Rodon faces eight to 10 weeks on the sidelines because of a significant hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old Wales international was substituted after 34 minutes of Leeds’ 1-1 Premier League draw with Brentford last Sunday.

Before suffering the injury, Rodon had featured in the opening league victory at Nottingham Forest and the Carabao Cup win over the same club.

Farke described the diagnosis as disappointing, confirming a serious hamstring problem ahead of Saturday’s 15:00 BST trip to Brighton.

He expects Rodon to be unavailable for eight to 10 weeks and ruled out any possibility of the defender returning before the next international break.

The manager said losing such an important player was a major setback and could increase the need to recruit a wing-back, as James Justin may now have to operate in central defence.

Farke added that the priority is to help Rodon recover as quickly as possible, while noting that Leeds could use the January transfer window if further reinforcements are required.

Leeds strengthened their left-back choices by signing French defender Melvin Bard on deadline day. Justin had also been filling that role for Sweden international Gabriel Gudmundsson, who sustained a hamstring injury during pre-season.

Rodon’s injury is also a concern for Wales, who are scheduled to visit Portugal on 24 September and Denmark on 27 September in Uefa Nations League Group 4 during the forthcoming international break.

Wales will then welcome Norway and Denmark for two home Nations League fixtures at the beginning of October.
