Merlin Rohl (off 74, Hackney): His team-mates urged him to push further forward, but he appeared reluctant to leave space behind. However, he delivered the cross that Thierno Barry should have converted with a header. 6

James Tarkowski: A second-half long pass that went directly to Senne Lammens prompted frustration from the supporters and an angry reaction from his manager. 6

Jarrad Branthwaite: Produced an excellent defensive display, repeatedly putting his body in front of Man Utd efforts and making a superb challenge on Rashford. He also found an opportunity to threaten at the opposite end. 8

Harrison Armstrong: Was booked after unnecessarily pulling Bruno Fernandes around the neck, but that was the only real blemish on an otherwise impressive showing. It was easy to understand why Everton supporters reacted so strongly to suggestions that he might be sold. 7

James Garner (off 76, Maitland-Niles): Delivered a solid performance against his former side, working relentlessly both defensively and in attack. 7

Brennan Johnson (off 66, Grealish): Selected ahead of Jack Grealish but offered little attacking threat. He was booked for an obvious foul on Matheus Cunha, although the challenge prevented the Brazilian from breaking into the penalty area. 6

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall: Worked diligently in central midfield. Although his efforts did not produce the desired result, manager David Moyes would have valued his contribution. 7

Tyrique George: Made a bright start and displayed outstanding technique to lift the ball over Mbeumo. His influence faded after the interval, but he re-emerged to beat Lammens. 6

Thierno Barry: Was fortunate to avoid a booking after clearly going to ground in search of an early penalty. He headed Everton’s best first-half chance over the crossbar from close range and later overhit a pass that might have released Johnson. 5

Jack Grealish (on 66): Attacked Diogo Dalot directly and drew a yellow-card challenge from the Man Utd defender. He looked determined to influence the contest, while his introduction energized Everton’s supporters ahead of the closing stages.
