England internationals Alessia Russo and Alex Greenwood have been named among the 30 nominees for the women’s Ballon d’Or.
The pair are the only Lionesses included on the list. Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati, winner of the previous three editions, is absent after a broken leg kept her sidelined for much of the season.
Russo, who placed third in last year’s vote, delivered another impressive season for Arsenal, registering 24 goals across 40 club matches.
Greenwood captained Manchester City to Women’s Super League and FA Cup triumphs last season.
Her Manchester City colleague Khadija Shaw also earned a nomination after finding the net 21 times in 22 league appearances.
Alexia Putellas, a two-time recipient of the prize, is viewed as a leading contender following her role in Barcelona’s Champions League success.
Scotland international Caroline Weir, who moved from Real Madrid to Lyon in June, was selected after scoring 20 goals in all competitions for the Spanish club.
Established by France Football in 1956, the award marks its 70th anniversary this year. The winner is due to be revealed during a ceremony in London on 26 October.
London was chosen as a meaningful tribute to former England international Sir Stanley Matthews, the inaugural Ballon d’Or winner.
