Ballon d’Or 2026 shortlist: Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice among nominees

News

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane is among three English players shortlisted for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Kane, considered the leading contender for the prize, is joined on the 30-man list by Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

Inter Miami attacker Lionel Messi has also earned a nomination as he pursues a record-extending ninth Ballon d’Or title.

The 39-year-old netted eight times during Argentina’s World Cup campaign, which ended with defeat by Spain in the July final, before announcing his retirement from international football.

Lamine Yamal is among six members of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad selected for the shortlist.

Ferran Torres is also included after scoring the decisive goal in the final. The forward moved from Barcelona to Paris St-Germain during the summer.

Paris St-Germain, winners of the past two Champions League titles, have nine nominated players apart from recent arrival Torres, including reigning Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembele.

Real Madrid attackers Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr feature on the list alongside Arsenal defenders Gabriel and William Saliba.

Created by France Football in 1956, the award marks its 70th anniversary this year. The winner is due to be revealed at a ceremony in London on 26 October.

London was chosen as a symbolic tribute to former England international Sir Stanley Matthews, the inaugural Ballon d’Or winner.
