Tottenham and Brazilian forward Richarlison disagree over the final nine months of his contract.
Richarlison is reportedly assessing his options after a deadline-day transfer to Everton fell through. Sources suggest the 29-year-old wants Tottenham to release him from the rest of his agreement.
The club and the player’s representatives remain in discussions, although the situation is believed to have intensified in recent days.
Richarlison hopes to reach an arrangement that would allow him to leave on a free transfer, but Tottenham do not regard that outcome as a viable option.
The situation is further complicated by Tottenham’s option to extend his contract by another 12 months, keeping him at the club until the end of next season.
Tottenham are not prepared to discuss a financial settlement covering the remainder of Richarlison’s deal.
The forward was omitted from the club’s Premier League squad after his proposed return to Everton failed to materialize.
Tottenham had been set to receive £35m for the transfer, but Richarlison could not agree personal terms with Everton.
Brazilian club Vasco da Gama are interested in signing Richarlison, who is thought to be open to returning to Brazil.
