Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara says he has moved on and is concentrating on the Ligue 1 campaign after his proposed £47.1m transfer to Chelsea failed to materialise.
The 22-year-old underwent a medical, but the move broke down shortly before the transfer deadline.
Monaco had previously turned down two offers before reducing their valuation during a chaotic end to the window, when Folarin Balogun’s proposed switch to Everton appeared uncertain.
Once Balogun’s deal seemed likely to proceed, Monaco apparently reconsidered allowing Camara to leave. Ultimately, however, both players remained at the Ligue 1 club.
Speaking ahead of Monaco’s match against Strasbourg on Saturday, Camara acknowledged that a departure had been possible.
He said the transfer collapsed at the final moment, which he accepted as part of the game, and added that he had put the situation behind him to concentrate on the campaign.
Reports from France suggested Monaco were required to complete a significant sale during the summer and would rather have transferred Balogun. Someone familiar with the club’s position had earlier said only a considerable offer would persuade Monaco to part with Camara.
Monaco opened the Ligue 1 season with three consecutive victories. Going into the weekend, they were second behind Rennes in the standings and had played one fewer match.
The Senegal international believes he can make an important contribution to the team.
Camara added that circumstances in football can change quickly and fresh possibilities may emerge, but his immediate priority is Monaco’s season.
