The first set of league-phase fixtures in the 2026-27 Europa League begins on Wednesday evening, one day ahead of the tournament’s traditional schedule.
Europa League and Conference League matches are normally held on Thursday evenings. However, games may occasionally be moved when they clash with other European fixtures taking place in nearby locations.
This Wednesday, nine of the 18 Europa League matches scheduled for the opening week of the league phase will be played.
The remaining nine fixtures will take place on Thursday as part of the Europa League’s exclusive matchweek.
Sunderland, AC Milan, Benfica and Lyon are among the clubs competing on Wednesday.
The Champions League is also given a dedicated week, scheduled during its opening round.
Its matches were staged across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week.
The Conference League receives a separate matchweek as well, although it is held in December during the final round of league-phase fixtures.
This scheduling format was introduced in the 2024-25 season, when the tournament adopted a league-phase structure similar to those used in the Champions League and Conference League.
