Kevin Miller, the former goalkeeper for Exeter City, Crystal Palace, Barnsley and Watford, has passed away at the age of 57.
Miller, who was serving as Wigan Athletic’s goalkeeping coach, died unexpectedly during the night on Tuesday.
He joined the Latics in the summer and reunited with former Exeter manager Gary Caldwell after leaving his goalkeeping coach position with the Devon club in June.
During his playing career, the Cornwall native also represented Birmingham City, Bristol Rovers, Southampton, Torquay United and Bodmin Town.
Wigan Athletic said in a statement published on the club’s website, external that despite Miller’s brief time with the Latics, he quickly became a highly valued and admired member of the first-team staff.
The club praised his knowledge, professionalism and dedication to goalkeeping, adding that his positive character left a strong impression on everyone who worked with him.
It said Miller made an important contribution to football, but those closest to him would remember his personal qualities above all else.
He was remembered as a husband, father, respected colleague and committed coach who had a meaningful influence on people both within football and beyond it.
His unexpected death has left everyone at the club shocked and deeply upset.
The club extended its thoughts and condolences to Miller’s wife Fiona, his daughter Esme, and his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who knew and cared for him.
