Paris St-Germain’s Ligue 1 encounter with Lyon has been delayed by one day and will now take place on Monday as Paris braces for another weekend of demonstrations.
The match at the Parc des Princes was originally due to begin at 19:45 GMT on Sunday, but the new kick-off time is 20:30 on Monday.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) confirmed the rescheduling in a statement, external on Friday after police prevented the fixture from being held on its initially planned date.
Authorities in France are organizing an extensive security operation ahead of demonstrations scheduled for Saturday.
Approximately 550,000 people joined protests last Saturday over higher fuel prices, education standards and living costs, following several weeks of student-led action.
Supported by trade unions and student organizations, marches were held across several major French cities, including Paris, with some areas experiencing violence, looting and property damage.
Security arrangements are also being affected by Sunday’s NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France, which is expected to need a substantial police presence.
That event is set to take place in Saint-Denis, roughly 10km from Place de la Bastille, the anticipated starting point of the demonstrations.
The unrest has already caused another change to France’s domestic football calendar, with Toulouse’s Ligue 1 home fixture against Troyes switched from Saturday to Sunday following a request from local authorities.
Defending French and European champions PSG sit second after seven games, while Lyon occupy top spot with 14 points and lead the title holders on goal difference.
The rescheduled fixture will now be held on the same day as the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.
Injured PSG players Ousmane Dembele, who won the prize in 2025, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are both among this year’s candidates.
