Arsenal may consider sending teenage talent Max Dowman out on loan this season if the move would support his progress.
The 16-year-old broke two records last season by becoming the youngest player to score in Premier League history and the youngest scorer for the Gunners.
Although he has not yet played in the English top division this season, Dowman began his campaign by scoring twice in Arsenal’s 4-2 Carabao Cup victory at Ipswich on Tuesday.
Manager Mikel Arteta said he wants the youngster to remain involved with the first team, but explained that the club will regularly review which option is most beneficial for his development.
“Every six months, we will assess his situation, determine the best path for him and make the appropriate decision,” Arteta said.
“Many considerations will shape that choice, including what he and the team require, the players available in the squad, how much game time he receives and the value of those minutes.
“We must remain flexible, but his current priority is to stay here and contribute to the team.”
Dowman, who finished his GCSEs during the summer, can move on loan after turning 17 on 31 December.
The winter transfer period is due to begin one day later, and Luton manager Jack Wilshere, a former Arsenal midfielder, is reportedly interested in signing the teenager temporarily.
“We have not seriously considered any proposals because our position was always clear: we wanted Max in the squad, involved throughout pre-season, and then we would evaluate the situation from there,” Arteta added.
