During the hearing, it was revealed that on 6 September 2023, Cusack had texted Morgan to let him know she would be absent from training.
After she made contact again, the two arranged to speak over the phone several days later, on 11 September 2023.
Morgan recounted to the inquiry that during their conversation, he learned she had visited her doctor, been given a prescription, and would be taking a period of leave from her role.
The court also heard the pair discussed the possibility of Cusack going to a fixture scheduled for 30 September 2023.
He stated that the call gave him “enough reassurance she wanted to get back into football”.
When pressed on whether he felt “reassured” by their exchange, Morgan clarified: “I wouldn’t use the word reassured, but the information she gave me was a positive step forward, in my opinion.”
The inquiry was informed that no written record of the discussion was made, and following it, Morgan passed the details on to Basu.
In her line of questioning, assistant coroner Sophie Cartwright KC asked the coach whether he had reached out to the human resources department, given it was his “first experience” of a squad member being absent from work due to mental health challenges.
“I escalated to who I thought was the right person at the time,” Morgan answered.
When asked if he would have brought up additional concerns with the medical professional had he believed she faced an “imminent risk” of harming herself or taking her own life, Morgan responded: “Yes.”
The inquiry is ongoing.
